Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister was with the Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit on Sunday when a call came that a boat had lost power and was taking on water, the department said in a news release.

When they got to the boat, rescuers, including Sheriff Chronister, helped 11 people off their boat to safety.

Chronister, the Marine Unit, and the U.S. Coast Guard were all on hand for the airshow that featured the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, The Tampa Bay Times reported.

“There was no hesitancy on behalf of the brave women of the HCSO Marine Unit, and other agencies, in working together to bring this family back to shore,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “As traumatic and scary as this ordeal was for the adults, and especially the children, we’re glad they were able to count on the kindness of our deputies to calm their nerves, and even get some smiles at the end from a very grateful family.”

Deputies did not say what caused the family’s boat to lose power and begin taking on water.
