Florida woman accused of stealing money from parents of ex-husband

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida woman is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the parents of her ex-husband, authorities said.

Samantha Ariel Perea, 36, of Cantonment, was arrested Tuesday and charged with grand theft, uttering a false instrument, criminal use of personal identification information and exploitation of an elderly person of between $10,000 and $50,000, according to Escambia County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

According to an arrest report, Perea’s ex-husband said he discovered fraudulent claims to his parents’ accounts. The victims are aged 71 and 75, and the former husband said Perea “was in charge” of the family’s financial accounts, WKRG-TV reported.

Perea’s former husband said he gathered and assessed his parents’ accounts and found charges to multiple credit lines ranging from $30,000 to $80,000, according to the television station. The alleged crimes occurred between July 2021 and June 2022.

According to the arrest report, Perea allegedly also deposited military retirement checks, Social Security checks and Veterans Affairs checks into her own account, WKRG reported.

Perea was booked into Escambia County Jail and bail was set at $32,000, online records show. She posted bail 42 minutes later.
