ALTAVISTA, Va. — Two Virginia gas stations are facing off in a “friendly competition” to see who can offer the lowest prices – but customers seem to be the real winners.
According to The Altavista Journal, GB and One Stop Mart, both located on Main Street in Altavista, recently slashed fuel prices to less than $3 per gallon. On Thursday, GB’s regular-octane gas was $2.83 per gallon for cash customers and $2.89 for those paying with a credit card. Meanwhile, a shopper said One Stop was charging $2.99 per gallon, the newspaper reported.
That’s far less than the state average of $4.215 on Thursday, according to AAA. The national average was even higher, at $4.44, the organization said.
FB Fuel Manager Andy Gill called the low prices “a good way to give back to the community,” WSET reported.
“It makes a lot of sense, just to sometimes sacrifice your profits to protect the business model that you established,” Gill told WSET. “It’s very important to us.”
One Stop Mart owner Lucinda Davis echoed the sentiment, calling the rivalry a “friendly competition between two business owners,” according to the news station.
“We just try to give back to the community, give back to Altavista,” she told WSET. “Help the schools, help the police department.”
