The Hometown Hero event marked the 10-year anniversary of The Home Depot Foundation’s work to help veterans, according to WSB. In the last decade, the foundation has invested more than $400 million in veterans causes, according to officials.

“Since 2011, we’ve worked with some of the nation’s leading veteran service organizations to effect positive change for veterans, many of whom are facing homelessness, housing insecurity or housing that hinders their movement or ability to live independently due to service-connected injuries,” Shannon Gerber, executive director of The Home Depot Foundation, said earlier this month in a statement.

“We’re proud to serve alongside our partners who work tirelessly to support veterans. We know there is so much more work to be done, and we are honored to continue serving alongside these incredible organizations.”

The Home Depot employs more than 35,000 veterans and military spouses, WSB reported.

In addition to helping to improve the homes and lives of veterans, The Home Depot Foundation aims to train skilled tradespeople and to support communities impacted by natural disasters.
