A meeting backstage at the 94th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday led to John Travolta’s son taking home the dog that was used as part of a tribute to Betty White during the show’s “In Memoriam” segment.
In an Instagram post, Travolta announced his son’s new pet with a photo of him, his son, and the puppy, named Mac N Cheese.
In her own post on Instagram, Jamie Lee Curtis shared the same picture. Curtis, who was holding the dog during the tribute Sunday night, said that she reconnected with Travolta backstage, with whom she starred in “Perfect” in 1984. She said in her post: “I thought it was so beautiful to see (Travolta) with (the dog), and then today I found out that he and his son, Ben have adopted beautiful little mac & cheese and are taking her home today. It is an emotional end and a perfect tribute to Betty White.”
Curtis brought Mac N Cheese on stage with her as part of a tribute to Betty White during the “In Memoriam” segment of the awards ceremony, saying of White, “She was a woman who cared not just for her two-legged friends but for animals just like this one. So, the greatest gift you could give Betty White is to open your heart and your home and adopt a rescue dog just like Mac N Cheese from Paw Works,” People reported.
Paw Works, a southern California nonprofit animal rescue group, provided the puppy for the awards ceremony. On its Facebook page, the group posted the same picture of the Travoltas with the puppy, saying, “On a night of winners and losers, we think Mac N Cheese is the biggest winner of all! We know (Betty White) was shining down last night.”
Betty White died in December 2021, just days before her 100th birthday, as we reported at the time. She famously spent her life advocating for animals.
