Leanza Cornett, Miss America 1993, dies from brain injury after fall

She fell Oct. 12 and had to have surgery to relieve pressure and treat brain swelling and bleeding, a family spokesperson in a news release.

She died on Oct. 28, Action News Jax reported.

Cornett started her career in the Christian Music Group “Area Code" and performed as Ariel at Walt Disney World MGM Studios, now called Disney Hollywood Studios, in the show “Voyage of the Little Mermaid.” She also was a reporter for Entertainment Tonight.

She also appeared on the “Today” show, “Rachael Ray," “CSI” and “Weeds," USA Today reported.

Cornett had been married to former “Entertainment Tonight” host Mark Steines who paid tribute to his ex-wife on Instagram.

Cornett was 49 years old.
