Lipstick on pony: Group accused of terrorizing animals

WYCKOFF, N.J. — One adult and six teens have been charged after authorities said the group broke into a farm and abused some of the animals.

An 18-year-old man, three 17-year-old men and three 17-year-old women are charged with trespassing, criminal mischief and overloading animals, WNBC reported.

The group’s names were not released.

The incident happened on Aug. 22 at Abma’s Farm in Wyckoff, New Jersey, but the group was charged recently.

Police didn’t release details, but the farm’s owner spoke last month about what allegedly happened, WNBC reported.

The zoo was closed at the time, WLNY reported.

Abma said the gates and pens were open and the animals appeared scared.

He said he found out about the incident after a Snapchat photo was tagged with his farm. The photo allegedly showed a teenaged girl riding a miniature donkey. The animals don’t usually carry people.

A miniature pony had either lip gloss or lipstick across its face. Abma said that animal was the most scared, WNBC reported.

Abma had to shut down the petting zoo so the animals could be evaluated by a veterinarian, WLNY reported at the time.
