Jim Bays, 66, of Georgetown, bought a billboard in October and his message is clear: “Wanted, a good woman. 50-55ish. For talks & walks & mutual acts of kindness.”

“What you see is something that took several months to really bear fruit,” Bays told KXAN-TV.

Bays moved to Texas earlier this year from Washington state, KVUE-TV reported. He is a general contractor by trade, telling the television that he is “a spec builder. Death by 10,000 cuts ... that’s what being a general contractor building houses is.”

Now, Bays wants to build some relationships.

“I’m looking for love,” Bays told KVUE. “I’m just way too busy and where do I go at my age to meet ladies that are on the same page with me? How do you weed through all that and get to the point where you know she’s single? I’m single. And we can talk about things.”

At the bottom of the billboard is a number that connects to a phone Bays set up for his romantic quest, according to KXAN. Callers might get Bays’ voicemail, which asks them to leave a message explaining where they are from. And, he will kindly get back to you.

For prospective callers, Bays has been married and divorced twice, KXAN reported. He has five children from both marriages; his youngest child is 12. Bays said he was married to his first wife for eight years and 19 to his second.

“I’m 0-for-2,” Bays told the television station. “I get better over time.

“Looking back on it, I’m in a real stressful business and it takes up a lot of my time,” Bays told KXAN, adding that his youngest daughters are dancers and their mother is a dedicated “dance mom.”

Obligations from the job, dance and life in general caused the couple to drift apart.

“I think I shot myself in the foot,” Bays told KXAN. “Oh well, life is life. Live and learn.”

Bays wants to get back on his feet relationship-wise, so he thought a billboard was the perfect ice-breaker.

“I put the billboard up to bring in enough ladies so that I have enough meetings that I can find the glove that fits the hand, so that’s what I’m looking at,” Bays told KVUE.

Ultimately, Bays told the television station, he is looking for a female friend -- and love.

“We’re programmed like that,” Bays told KVUE, adding that he is receiving up to 40 calls per day and has several dates lined up. “I am going to get to the finish line, there’s no ifs, ands or buts about it.

“I’m going to find you, and I hope you find me too.”
