Theresa Roy, 79, of Oakland, was sitting in the front seat of a 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by her husband, David Roy on Tuesday when a tree fell on the vehicle as they were driving through Sidney, the Morning Sentinel of Waterville reported.

“High winds caused a large pine tree to snap and fall onto the vehicle as it traveled,” according to Lt. J. Chris Read of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office. “This caused heavy damage to the vehicle and a branch penetrated the dashboard, ultimately impaling Theresa.”

The tree hit the car and impaled Theresa Roy after it went through the dashboard, WTMW reported.

Both David and Theresa Roy were taken to an area hospital, where Theresa Roy was originally listed in critical condition, the Morning Sentinel reported. David Roy, 78, had non-life-threatening injuries.

A spokeswoman for MaineGeneral Health confirmed Wednesday that Theresa Roy was at Alfond Center for Health in Augusta and was listed in fair condition, the newspaper reported.
