The current mayor is running for reelection and thinks she’s “purrfect” for the job. She’d probably tell everyone that if she could talk.

Mayor Sweet Tart McKee was the winner of the most recent ceremonial election in Omena, Michigan Live reported.

The community is unincorporated and doesn’t have its own government, but that doesn’t stop the Omena Historical Society from sponsoring an election to raise money.

Each time they hold an election, the slate of candidates are all non-human characters from the community.

While the candidates are all from Omena, anyone can vote online, for a $5 minimum donation, through July 23.

Sweet Tart was elected in 2018 and is the first cat to sit in the mayor’s chair after Omena’s three past pet mayors were all dogs, but she didn’t relish having to hobnob with her constituents. Despite that, she did fulfill all of her mayoral duties.

Sweet Tart is also a bit of a celebrity, after being featured on CNN after her historic win.

She has some competition this year and was in second place as of Friday.

There’s also a goat named Sandra O’Day and a chicken named Penny running for the mayoral race.

The winner of the race will be announced July 24 at the end of the candidates’ parade through the community.
