ALPENA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Michigan man accused of using his debit card to jimmy the lock on an acquaintance’s home has been arrested after leaving a key piece of evidence behind: the card with his name on it.
James John Tanner, 30, was charged with second-degree home invasion in the Halloween night break-in, WDIV reported.
According to Michigan State Police, a woman returning home after taking her children trick-or-treating on Oct. 31, 2020, saw a man exiting her home, whom she recognized as Tanner, WPBN reported.
When Michigan State Police troopers arrived at the woman’s Alpena Township home, they discovered the door had been forced open using a debit card and found a damaged debit card bearing Tanner’s name at the scene, WDIV reported.
The warrant for Tanner’s arrest was issued Nov. 19 while he was being held in the Kent County Jail on unrelated charges. He was officially charged Thursday with the home invasion, and his bond was set at $30,000, the TV station reported.
