Missouri woman sentenced to 120-day prison term after boyfriend kills his baby boy, officials say

ST. LOUIS — A Missouri woman has been sentenced to a 120-day prison term after prosecutors said she repeatedly pressured her boyfriend to kill his baby boy.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Emily Paul, 31, of Columbia, pleaded guilty to an involuntary manslaughter charge last week, nearly 3 1/2 years after her boyfriend, 27-year-old Jibri Baker, smothered 3-month-old son, Ayden, to death in April 2017. Under her plea deal, Paul, who initially faced a first-degree murder charge, also was sentenced to five years of probation, the newspaper reported.

Investigators said Paul’s “emotional pressure” on Baker pushed him into killing the boy, one of his two sons he shared with another woman, via numerous text messages; however, Paul did not explicitly say to kill the baby, according to the Post-Dispatch.

In February, a judge sentenced Baker to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder and assault in Ayden’s death, the newspaper reported.
