More than $3.4 million in heroin seized by border patrol agents in Texas

HIDALGO, Texas — Two U.S. citizens were busted Monday in separate incidents transporting heroin worth more than $3.4 million from Mexico, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection field operations office in Hidalgo, Texas.

According to CBP officials, both men are residents of Pharr, Texas.

The first incident involved an unidentified 21-year-old man returning from Mexico in a Ford F-150. Officers discovered 15 packages of suspected heroin, weighing nearly 34 pounds, concealed within the pickup truck. The drugs are worth an estimated $918,000.

Meanwhile, the second incident occurred later in the evening after authorities searched a Chevrolet Malibu driven by an unidentified 19-year-old man and discovered 24 packages of suspected heroin, weighing nearly 92 pounds, concealed within the vehicle’s tires. The drugs are worth an estimated $2.5 million.

Both the narcotics and vehicles were seized by border patrol agents, and the drivers were placed in the custody of Homeland Security Investigations.
