CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Three North Carolina men have been charged with trafficking opioids after a Sunday traffic stop led to the seizure of nine pounds of fentanyl pills with a street value of $1 million.
Caldwell County Sheriff Alan Jones told WSOC that deputies discovered about 36,000 fentanyl pills, concealed under the hood of the vehicle, during the traffic stop.
Deputies also seized about $900 in cash, three handguns and a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE 63A that was used to transport the illegal narcotics, the TV station reported.
“This ring of individuals was a major pipeline for fentanyl pills into this county and surrounding counties,” Jones said in a news release.
Thirty-nine-year-old Jermaine Douglas Grandy, 18-year-old Nevaeh Douglas Grandy and 25-year-old Khyran Rasaan Littlejohn have each been charged with felony traffic in heroin or opium, WHKY reported, noting the Grandys are father and son living at the same address.
According to WSOC, a search warrant was also executed at the Grandys’ home in Lenoir, where deputies seized another 29 firearms and more than 5,000 rounds of ammunition.
