“Without regard for his own safety, he immediately ran into the burning home,” the department said on social media. “He’s a great example of selflessness.”

Video shows Howard arrive to the scene, get out of his patrol car and quickly run to the burning home.

“There’s still one?” he can be heard asking other responding officers.

He runs inside to find a woman crying and a man trying to corral their dog outside.

“I got to get my dog out,” the man said.

Howard helps usher the trio out of the house.

“Oh my god, my dog,” the woman said as she collapses on the front yard.

Howard then helps her up as the dog can be seen safely scurrying on the street outside.
