Officials: Man who killed Georgia corrections officers during escape found dead in prison cell

JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. — A man who killed two Georgia corrections officers during an escape from a prison transport bus about five years ago was found dead in his cell on Sunday.

According to WSB-TV, Ricky Dubose, 29, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson, Georgia on Sunday. Officials believe he committed suicide. He was pronounced dead by a coroner just before 6 p.m. and an investigation into his death is ongoing, per procedure.

Dubose was convicted and sentenced for the death of Sgt. Christopher Monica and Sgt. Curtis Billue which happened in June 2017, according to WSB-TV.

Dubose was sentenced to death last week. He was already serving 20 years for an armed robbery and assault in another county in 2015 prior to the escape, WSB-TV said.
