Honolulu Emergency Medical Services told The Associated Press that emergency crews were called out to a 7-Eleven store after midnight Friday. First responders located a man near the entrance of the parking lot with “multiple lacerations, puncture wounds, and a severed hand,” and told the AP that it was the man’s left hand.

The man, 40, was attacked with a sword and taken to the hospital in critical condition, HEMS told HNN-TV.

A witness told HNN-TV that there was an argument between two people inside the store. The witness then said that the situation escalated and one of the men allegedly cut the man’s hand off outside of the store with a sword.

According to HNN-TV, the suspect, 46, fled but was later arrested for attempted murder. Police have not yet been able to confirm whether the suspect was a 7-Eleven employee or not.

No further information has been released including any details about the sword. The investigation is ongoing.
