Owner of abandoned dog in Indiana leaves note blaming coronavirus

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. — An abandoned dog in Indiana was found tied to a tree with a heartbreaking note. Her owner explained that he lost his job and house because of the coronavirus pandemic and could no longer take care of the German shepherd mix.

Animal control officials received a call about the dog in Johnson County, WXIN reported. When officials arrived, they found 18-month-old Roadie with a note left in her collar, WTHR reported.

“I was a spoiled girl, my dad gave me my own couch to lay on and my own memory foam bed,” the note said in part. “My dad lost his job and soon his home from COVID.”

“My heart certainly goes out to that individual,” Michael Delp, Director of the Johnson County Animal Control told WXIN. “However, to release a dog out in the middle of nowhere, that’s just not the way to go about it. There’s all kinds of things that could happen to this animal. Struck by a vehicle or attacked by other animals.”

Delp said his department had received more than 20 requests to adopt Roadie, WTHR reported.

Roadie is safe and being housed at the Johnson County Animal Shelter, WXIN reported. The dog will be put up for adoption after the standard three-day stray hold.
