A rat scurried out to the outfield as the New York Mets took on the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park on Tuesday night, during the Nats “Pups in the Park” promotion.

And while it is partially normal to see a variety of animals during a game — for instance dogs, birds, bees and even a stay cat once in a while — having a rat run out midgame is something new for some players.

“During a game, I’ve seen birds, cats, everything but rats. First time,” Nationals right fielder Juan Soto said after the game, according to The Associated Press.

Some fans gasped. Others cheered.

“The rat was lucky it was Pups in the Park tonight and not Cat-urday!” Nats spokeswoman Jennifer Mastin Giglio said in a text message, the AP reported.

Before the rat became the 10th player on the field for the Nats, which is last in the standings, was up 2-0 but James McCann had a sacrifice fly for the Mets shortly after the rat incident, giving the NL East leaders the edge and beating the Nationals 4-2.
