Police: Tennessee man dies after being struck by buzzard while riding motorcycle

LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. — A Tennessee man was killed Thursday after he was struck by a bird while riding his motorcycle, authorities said.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Karl Douglas Tillar Jr., 41, of Lawrenceburg, was riding his Suzuki GSX at about 3 p.m. CDT when he was hit in the head by a buzzard.

The impact caused Tillar to lose control of his motorcycle and run off the road, WKRN-TV reported.

The motorcycle reportedly went through a fence and hit multiple trees before it stopped in a field, according to the television station. Officials said Tillar was thrown from the motorcycle and died from his injuries.

State troopers did not release any other information about the crash.

According to his obituary, Tillar enjoyed working on his motorcycles and cars. He also liked the open road, canoeing and working outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, two sons and a daughter.
