Queen Elizabeth II returns to royal duties days after Prince Philip’s death

Less than a week after Prince Philip’s death, Queen Elizabeth II has returned to performing royal duties.

Her husband, who had been by the queen’s side, for more than 73 years died Friday at the age of 99.

Queen Elizabeth II attended the retirement ceremony for Lord Chamberlain Earl Peel, who had been the royal household’s most senior official, The Associated Press reported.

Peel oversaw the funeral arrangements for the Duke of Edinburgh but gave the responsibility to a successor, according to the AP.

Prince Philip’s funeral will take place Saturday at Windsor Castle.

It will be limited to 30 people because of COVID-19 limitations.

Prince Philip will have a funeral procession to St. George’s Chapel.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Windsor said that people who gather to see the funeral events could be fined.

John Story reminded mourners that COVID-19 restrictions are still in place.

“We have to ask everyone to put theirs and the health and safety of others at the top of their list of priorities and not come into Windsor,” Story told Metro.
