Rapper Mystikal charged with rape in Louisiana

ASCENSION PARISH, La. — A Louisiana rapper known as “Mystikal” was arrested and charged with rape after a victim was attacked.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest in a news release, saying Michael “Mystikal” Tyler was arrested on several charges over the weekend, including rape, robbery and false imprisonment.

A judge is holding the rapper in jail without bond, WAFB reported.

Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies told NBC News that they were called to a hospital to interview a victim of sexual assault who suffered minor injuries. After an investigation, deputies said Mystikal was identified as the suspect.

Mystikal has a criminal history — he was sentenced to six years in prison and had to register as a sex offender after he was accused of sexually assaulting his hairstylist in 2003, WBRZ reported.

Mystikal was arrested in 2017 on assault charges that were eventually dropped, WBRZ reported.

Representatives for Mystikal did not respond to a request for comment from NBC News.
