According to a news release Wednesday from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, Amy’s Kitchen discovered the error after receiving a test result from a third-party laboratory. The result showed that one of the meals in the tested lot contained trace amounts of milk protein.

“The company is recalling this single lot out of an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of consumers who have an allergy or sensitivity to milk,” Amy’s Kitchen said in the recall notice.

The frozen food company, headquartered in Petaluma, California, contacted the FDA to notify its customers and retailers. Amy’s said that 15,626 cases of Vegan Organic Rice Mac & Cheeze are being recalled, according to the news release.

The lot number of the recall is 60J0421 of its Vegan Organic Rice Mac & Cheeze, and the product was distributed nationwide. The recall only involves Rice Mac & Cheeze 8-ounce packages containing a “Best By” date of 10/2023, UPC number 42272-00043 and Lot Code 60J0421, according to the release.
