Recall alert: Sure, Brut aerosol sprays recalled for benzene risk

WESTPORT, Conn. — In a statement posted on the FDA website, HRB Brands said it issued a voluntary recall of some Sure and Brut Aerosol Sprays. The affected products have an expiration date of “on or before August 2023.”

The company said that benzene is not a listed as an ingredient of the recalled products, but a review showed “that unexpected levels of benzene came from the propellant that sprays the product out of the can.”

Benzene has been linked to some cancers, including leukemia and blood cancer of the bone marrow, as well as certain life-threatening blood disorders.

These products were owned and distributed by Helen of Troy Limited prior to June 7, 2021:
