‘Road House’ remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal to be set in Florida

Amazon Studios has announced that Jake Gyllenhaal will star in a reboot of the 1989 cult classic “Road House.”

According to Variety, Gyllenhaal will play Dalton, a former UFC fighter who takes a job working as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse and “discovers that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise.”

Doug Liman, best known for directing “The Bourne Identity,” “Swingers,” and “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” will direct the action movie.

“I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved Road House legacy and I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role,” Liman told Deadline.

The movie will go into production in the Dominican Republic later this month and will also star Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, Gbemisola Ikumelo and Lukas Gage.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Amazon said that the project would be a new take on the iconic 1989 movie where the late Patrick Swayze played a zen “cooler” James Dalton in a rough and tumble small town in Missouri.

“Road House is a homerun for us. Not only is it a nod to fans of the original, but it is also a big, fun, broad audience movie,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, to Deadline.
