Inmate dies after fight in prison

COLUMBIA, S.C. — An inmate at a South Carolina prison died Wednesday from injuries he received during a fight with other inmates, corrections officials said.

Jamin Jamal Anderson, 32, of Charleston, died after the fight at the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville, WACH-TV reported. Anderson’s death was confirmed by Lee County Coroner Larry Logan, according to a news release from the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

Anderson was serving a 15-year sentence for first-degree burglary, kidnapping, armed robbery, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, criminal conspiracy and a firearms provision, according to corrections records.

Anderson was arrested, along with two other men, in March 2012 in connection with a home invasion in Beaufort County, WCSC reported.

Anderson had been in prison since 2013, according to correction records. He was eligible for release in January 2025.
