‘South Park’ renewed through 30th season

The adult animated series “South Park” will be sticking around for a bit longer.

The creators of the show, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, have signed a deal with MTV Entertainment Studios that will keep “South Park” on the air on Comedy Central through its 30th season in 2027.

The first episode aired Aug. 13, 1997.

The deal will also bring 14 new movies to the streaming platform Paramount+. Two of the made-for-streaming films will debut this year.

“Matt and Trey are world-class creatives who brintly use their outrageous humor to skewer the absurdities of our culture and we are excited to expand and deepen our long relationship with them to help fuel Paramount+ and Comedy Central,” Chris McCarthy, President/CEO - MTV Entertainment & COO/Adult Animation - Paramount+ said in a news release.

Parker and Stone hit serious topics head-on.

This year’s “South ParQ Vaccination Special” was the No. 1 cable telecast of the year, with 3.5 million viewers when it aired. It also was nominated for the show’s 19th Emmy award in the Outstanding Animated Program category. Overall, the series has earned five Emmy awards and a George Foster Peabody Award.
