The last time the Cincinnati Bengals reached the Super Bowl, in January 1989, the team’s quarterback was Norman “Boomer” Esiason. At the time, Justin Tucker and Travis Sheehan bought a rare edition Bengals chocolate bar, known as the “Boomer Bar,” WLWT-TV reported.

Although Esiason was the NFL’s MVP during the 1989 season and threw for 3,572 yards and 28 touchdowns, he was unable to lead the Bengals to a Super Bowl title. Those hopes were dashed when San Francisco’s Joe Montana engineered a 93-yard drive in the fourth quarter to give the 49ers a dramatic 20-16 victory in Super Bowl XXIII.

Tucker and Sheehan, disappointed by the loss, decided to save the bars and “not eat them until (the Bengals) won the Super Bowl,” according to WLWT.

The chocolate bars have been sitting in a freezer for 33 years. The men joked that if the Bengals defeat the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, they will defrost the bars and chow down.

“So, here we are, Super Sunday is days away and we have added the Boomer Bars to the Super Bowl menu,” the men told the television station.
