Investigators with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office believe the 17-year-old from Wellington was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the 10:58 p.m. EST crash west of Delray Beach, the Sun-Sentinel reported. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office, the teen’s injuries were minor.

According to the sheriff’s office, the male teen was driving a 2019 BMW M5 “at a high rate of speed,” WPTV-TV reported.

The boy rear-ended a 2018 Nissan Rogue that had six people inside, the television station reported.

The impact caused the Nissan to hit the center median, where it flipped and rolled over, landing upside down in the median of the highway, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

Five people died at the scene, WPEC-TV reported. A sixth person was taken to an area hospital and later died, according to the television station.

All of the victims were in the SUV.

Mirlaine I. Julceus, 44, of West Palm Beach, the driver of the SUV, was killed, the Sun-Sentinel reported. Also killed were Remize Michel, 52, of Palm Springs; Marie M. Louis, of Wellington; Filaine Dieu, 45, of Lake Worth Beach; and Vanice Percina, 28, of West Palm Beach, the sheriff’s office said late Friday. The name of the sixth person in the Nissan was not released pending notification of next of kin, the newspaper reported.

Only Julceus and the teen were wearing seat belts, the sheriff’s office said.
