WVLT says when officers arrived at the home after 11 a.m. Monday, they spoke with a woman who told them her son, Dontae Hammond, 20, was angry and yelled at her while pinning her to a table. She told officers she was able to get free, but Hammond allegedly threw her onto the couch and choked her while hitting her head against the wall.

Hammond’s grandmother was trying to call 911, which is when he allegedly took her phone. He then cut the line to her oxygen tank and destroyed the machine.

According to a police report WBIR obtained, Hammond allegedly told his grandmother that he would kill her when he got out of jail.

Hammond has been charged with aggravated assault, domestic violence, interfering with emergency calls and vandalism. Hammond has an extensive criminal history in which he is a co-defendant in another case where he has been charged with aggravated criminal trespassing, according to WBIR.
