Liberty County sheriff’s deputies said that they were called to reports of a shooting and found Womack with a gunshot wound to his stomach, KPRC reported. Investigators told the station that Elliott had been working in his yard when Womack’s dog got loose and went onto Elliott’s property.

Elliott then allegedly saw Womack’s step-daughter and told her that if the family didn’t keep their dog out of his yard, he would kill the animal, KHOU reported.

Witnesses told investigators the two men met in the street to talk about the threat, where Elliott kicked Womack in the leg and pulled a gun from his waistband. Investigators told KHOU that Elliott shot Womack once in the stomach with a .45-caliber handgun and then returned to doing his yard work “as if nothing had ever happened.”

Womack’s wife and step-daughter witnessed the shooting, and screamed and called for help, KFDM reported. The women told investigators they saw Elliott return the gun to his truck after the shooting.
