Moments before they were scheduled to interview Vice President Kamala Harris, two hosts tested positive for COVID-19.
Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro both tested positive for breakthrough cases of the coronavirus, CNN reported.
They had started the show’s broadcast for the “Hot Topics” segment with Joy Behar and Sara Haines, but Hostin and Navarro were pulled from the show.
Ironically, they were taken off the broadcast shortly after they had talked about getting vaccinated and after promoting the in-studio interview of Harris.
The hosts do not wear masks during the show, but the audience does, The New York Times reported.
To fill time as Secret Service agents found a way to conduct the interview safely, Haines and Behar took questions from the audience. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg was already off for Friday’s broadcast, the Times reported.
Crews cleaned and disinfected the table Behar and Haines sat at and the interview with Harris was conducted remotely as a precaution, CNN reported.
Harris said of Hostin’s and Navarro’s positive tests that they “are strong women and I know they’re fine.”
.@VP Harris: "Sunny [Hostin] and Ana [Navarro] are strong women and I know they're fine, but it really also does speak to the fact that they're vaccinated and vaccines really make all the difference because otherwise we would be concerned about hospitalization and worse." pic.twitter.com/m5NMwT5dk8
