Tyson Foods donating 600K meals for storm relief in Kentucky, Tennessee

SPRINGDALE, Ark. — Tyson Foods announced Monday that it is donating 600,000 meals and aiding in disaster efforts for people in Kentucky and Tennessee who were affected by Friday’s tornadoes that hit the Mid-South.

The Springdale, Arkansas-based company is partnering with Walmart to help feed families and relief workers in Mayfield, Kentucky, one of the cities that suffered the most damage from the powerful twisters.

In a news release, Tyson officials said plans are also in the works to provide food and other aid in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and the Tennessee communities of Dresden and Samburg.

“We’re deeply saddened by the damage and loss of life caused by this powerful storm and we want to do our part to help,” John R. Tyson, executive vice president and chief sustainability officer of Tyson Foods, said in a statement. “We’re pitching in to help Tyson team members who have experienced storm damage, and we will continue to work with local community partners to learn where our resources and expertise can be best utilized.”

Tyson Foods brought its Meals That Matter disaster relief trailer to the Walmart Supercenter in Mayfield and will have volunteers on site who will distribute food, the company said in its news release.
