Jordan Baize told WLEX-TV that he didn’t realize his sister was recording when he began to play “Jesus, There’s Something About That Name,” written by gospel singers Bill and Gloria Gaither.

“The piano’s very special to me,” he said, according to WLEX. “I wanted to play it once more before more damage occurred to it.”

In a social media post, Baize’s sister, Whitney Brown, said the piano had suffered water damage and had keys missing after Friday’s tornado. She said she heard her brother playing it as she was helping to pack anything salvageable from the home.

Baize told WLEX that his family immediately went to the home’s basement after getting an urgent text alert amid Friday’s storms.

“It was loud, but it was also quick,” he said.

Music has always been important in his life – especially Christian music, WFIE-TV reported.

“My faith is a huge factor in my life,” he said, according to WFIE. “If it’s bringing peace and comfort and some sense of calm in an otherwise stormy time, then I am good with that.”

At least 74 people died in Kentucky in the storms Friday night, The Associated Press reported. The storms spawned tornadoes in five states in the Midwest and the South, claiming a total of at least 88 lives, according to the AP.
