Justin Davis, 29, of Paducah, was charged with murder-domestic violence, the Paducah Police Department said in a news release. Davis is accused of killing Sallie Newton, 53, of Paducah.

Bail for Davis was set at $1 million, according to McCracken County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

Police responded to a Paducah residence at about 1 a.m. CDT and found Newton injured from an apparent gunshot wound, WPSD reported.

Newton was taken to an area hospital, where she died from her injuries, the television station reported.

According to the Paducah Police Department, Davis and Newton were driving when they began to argue, KFVS reported. The couple pulled over to the side of a road and continued to argue, and Davis told detectives he pulled out a handgun, the television station reported.

According to police, Davis pointed the weapon at Newton and at himself. The gun discharged as the couple struggled over the gun, police said.
