Winter Olympics: Snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis wins USA’s 1st gold medal in Beijing

BEIJING — Snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis has claimed Team USA’s first gold medal of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

According to The Associated Press, the five-time Olympian won the women’s snowboardcross Wednesday, defeating second-place finisher Chloe Trespeuch of France and third-place finisher Meryeta Odine of Canada.

Jacobellis’ gold marks Team USA’s seventh medal so far at this year’s Games, according to the official Olympics website. American athletes have won five silver medals and one bronze.

Jacobellis, 36, won the silver medal in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, the AP reported.
