ong> -  George O'Leary's sudden retirement as UCF football coach is still being absorbed by everyone in the Knights program.

But the man assigned to help salvage the rest of the season says he's optimistic about helping getting the program back on track.

Danny Barrett will be on the sidelines for the first time as interim head coach against his alma mater when the Knights travel to face Cincinnati on Saturday. He says he doesn't plan to make many changes, but will do whatever he can to help the 0-8 UCF get into the win column for the first time in 2015.

Barrett was the only assistant under O'Leary with any previous head coaching experience, having previously served as Buffalo's interim head coach when Turner Gill departed for Kansas in 2009.
