Toyota of Orlando organizes Holiday Drive for local foster youth!

Did you know that Toyota of Orlando recently had the great honor of participating in Toyota’s 100 cars for good? We were able to donate a 2013 Toyota Sienna in Orlando to Intervention Services, which is a local organization that aids foster youth in the area. The facet of Intervention Services that will benefit directly from the new Toyota Sienna is The Village, which is a housing residence for local foster youth in Central Florida. Our Orlando Toyota dealership was so impressed by their mission that we decided to organize a holiday drive for them, collecting gifts from local friends, family, and business so the youth living in the Village could have the holiday they deserve! 

The Village provides foster youth a safe haven

The Village offers what’s called “transitional housing” for foster youth in Central Florida – this is a safe haven for foster youth who have technically aged out of the foster care system, but who aren’t able to safely move into independent living. This may be because of health issues, or because the youth is still in high school, or a multitude of other reasons. The Village offers dorm style living and a safe place for them to reside until they’re able to move into the next phase of their life. Right now, The Village consists of two residential homes that house 12 youth, but they’re hoping to expand to be able to accommodate up to 15 youth this year. 

However, The Village doesn’t just provide these foster youth with a place to live. They also offer a variety of incredibly useful services designed to accommodate these youth with life skills. The Village provides them with job skills training, mentoring, tutoring, substance abuse prevention programs, counseling, and more. They even offer residents classes on subjects like budgeting and cooking, enabling them to more successfully transition into adulthood! 

The Village also takes the time and resources to ensure that their residents get to all of their appointments and obligations safely and efficiently. This is where the 2013 Toyota Sienna comes in – they’re already utilizing it daily to take the youth to high school, doctor’s appointments, job interviews, and more!

The Toyota of Orlando holiday drive was conducted in order to collect contributions from local friends, families, and businesses. We were thrilled with all of the support we received – local businesses like Mellow Mushroom, The Track Shack, Regal Cinemas, and more generously contributed to the drive and we can’t thank them enough! Additionally, many Toyota of Orlando employees took the time to both promote and give back to the drive. We’re proud to be a part of the community in Central Florida, and we’re proud to stand behind such an amazing cause like The Village!
