• Magic issue statement on Sterling punishment

    Updated:

Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been banned from the NBA for life and fined 2.5 million dollars for racist comments he made in a recorded conversation with his then girlfriend.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver says he will also ask the NBA's Board of Governors to vote to force Sterling to sell the team. Silver says he has the full support of the other 29 owners who make up the Board of Governors.

The Orlando Magic released this statement in response to the punishment handed down by the league:

"The Orlando Magic feel the recent reprehensible comments by Donald Sterling were absolutely unacceptable and do not reflect the values and beliefs of our organization or our league.  We applaud the leadership of NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, as well as Head Coach Doc Rivers and his players, who are at the epicenter of the situation."
