Former Dr. Phillips QB Patti leaving Boise State

Three years ago, Nick Patti threw for 23 touchdowns and more than 2,000 yards leading Dr. Phillips High School to the 8A State Championship game. Now he may be returning closer to home to finish out his college career.

Patti asked for, and was granted, a release from his scholarship at Boise State University today where he was expected to compete for the starting job this spring.

Patti spent two seasons in Idaho. He redshirted his freshman year and played sparingly as a backup in 2013. But Chris Petersen, the head coach who recruited Patti, left for Washington and the young quarterback decided it was time to explore other options.

Patti has not said where he will transfer but when he was in high school he had offers from UCF, USF, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee and Indiana.
