• Orlando drop Voodoo, 63-48

    By: Orlando Predators

ORLANDO, Fla. - For the second straight week, the Orlando Predators (5-2) silenced a divisional opponent to stay atop the American Conference’s South Division. The Predators avenged an earlier loss by pummeling the New Orleans VooDoo (1-5) at CFE Arena on Saturday evening, 63-48. Orlando now holds a 4-1 record in the South Division.

Predators WR Greg Carr scored five total times on the night as he registered seven receptions for 58 yards and four touchdowns while adding one rushing touchdown. QB Jason Boltus turned in six total touchdowns, finding the end zone five times through the air with another score coming on the ground.

Orlando faced a 26-14 deficit midway through the second quarter before mounting a comeback fueled by offense and special teams. Following a 31-yard kickoff return by DB Tanner Varner, Greg Carr found the end zone as he took a handoff and barreled through the defense for a five-yard touchdown.

On the ensuing kickoff, K Mark Lewis created a scramble for the football with a well executed onside attempt. DB Phillip Thomas finally emerged from the pile with the ball, retaining possession for Orlando. With momentum on their side, the Predators drove down the field and found the end zone for the go-ahead score. Boltus dropped back and tossed it up to WR Greg Carr, who outmuscled a defender for a two-yard touchdown to give Orlando a 28-26 lead at the half.

The Predators received the ball to open the third quarter and QB Jason Boltus took advantage of two newly-acquired weapons in WR Jeffrey Solomon and WR Larry Brackins. After two completions to Solomon, Boltus rocketed a seven-yard touchdown pass to Brackins for a 35-26 lead.

Mark Lewis came up big once again on the ensuing kickoff, as he booted the ball hard off the net. The ball ricocheted back into the field of play and Greg Carr recovered the kick to retain possession. Needing only one snap to find the end zone, Jeffrey Solomon rushed over the right side for a three-yard touchdown to put Orlando up, 42-26.

Orlando’s defense answered the call on the following drive, swiftly forcing a turnover on downs by denying Kurt Rocco’s pass attempt on fourth down. Five plays later, Carr converted the turnover into points as he went over the top of two defenders to secure an eight-yard touchdown reception.

New Orleans inched closer to the lead with two answered scores, as Rocco hooked up with LJ Castile and Dwayne Eley for touchdowns. A series later, Carr would halt the VooDoo’s momentum with his fourth and final touchdown reception of the night. Carr again put his physicality on display by securing the six-yard score in the end zone for a 56-41 Orlando lead.

WR Larry Beavers scored a late touchdown for New Orleans, but the Predators got the final word as FB Michael Simons bulldozed defenders on his way to a two-yard touchdown run to seal the 63-48 victory.

The Orlando Predators take to the road in Week 8 to battle the San Jose SaberCats (3-3) on Saturday, May 3rd. The matchup can be viewed live exclusively on ESPN3.com. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:30pm EST.
