Daytona unveils innovative crossover gate

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Daytona International Speedway officials have removed one of the track's crossover gates in favor of a new front-stretch passage for fans.
 
   The access point has been completely renovated as part of the "Daytona Rising" rebuilding project. The crossover gate is now an aluminum platform that lifts as a portion of SAFER barrier swings open toward the grandstand.
 
   The bottom of the fencing is then rolled up to allow six feet and eight inches worth of clearance, and fans can pass underneath and onto the track to cross from the grandstands into the infield.
 
   Daytona track President Joie Chitwood III says if fans are able to pass through quickly during Speedweeks next month, the remaining eight crossover gates will be replaced by July. The gates at Talladega Superspeedway will follow.
