FHP: 3 killed in crash on Florida's Turnpike in Osceola County

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — Three people were killed Saturday night after they were hit by a vehicle on Florida’s Turnpike n Osceola County, said a spokesperson with the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded to the crash shortly after 11 p.m. on the northbound turnpike near mile marker 191.

Three pedestrians were pronounced dead at the scene, troops said.

Troopers said Wilfredo Fontanez, 44, was driving south on State Road 60 when he lost control, traveled off the roadway and onto the shoulder, striking a guardrail.

Another vehicle stopped so that its passenger, along with the two passengers in Fontanez's car, could render aid, according to an FHP report.

Meanwhile, the driver of another vehicle swerved off the roadway and into the center median, striking Fontanez's passengers and the good Samaritan. Troopers said another car driving toward the crash scene swerved to avoid Fontanez's car but still hit it, causing it to spin and hit the vehicle that had stopped to help.

The passengers were Tamari Lopez, 44, and Dylan Pineiro, 13, both of Altamonte Springs. The good Samaritan was identified as Jose Zuenigia-Garcia, 30, of Winter Haven.

The crash remains under investigation.
