• Mother, 8-year-old daughter die when car hits parked dump truck in Orange County

    ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - A 31-year-old Orlando woman and her 8-year-old daughter died early Tuesday when the car they were traveling in slammed into a parked dump truck filled with asphalt in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

    The crash was reported shortly after 3:45 a.m. at South John Young Parkway and West Sand Lake Road, Lt. Kim Montes said.

    Krystal Rios, 31, of Orlando, was driving a Honda Civic north on South John Young Parkway when she hit the truck, which was parked on a right turn lane and on the shoulder of the road, Montes said.

    Troopers said Rios was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and Kayla Monagas, 8,  was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where they died.

    The crash remains under investigation.
