MELBOURNE, Fla. — 9 Investigates a Melbourne firefighter who is set to be fired because of accusations he put a patient's life at risk.
Officials said Allan Reyna, a 20-year veteran of the Melbourne Fire Department, has had half a dozen disciplinary actions and complaints in the last three years.
Records show while Reyna was treating a patient at Avante Rehabilitation Center in February, he "hastily placed or tossed" an oxygen cylinder and it hit another patient.
Officials said Reyna was suspended and demoted from being a driver a year ago after he took a fire truck and drove it to a barbecue at his girlfriend's house while on duty.
About a year before that, Reyna was suspended because, while waiting for a plane with mechanical issues to land, he drove out onto an active runway for the wrong plane, which is a Federal Aviation Administration violation.
In January of 2013, while in charge of another station across town, Reyna was issued a written reprimand for taking his crew away from the station to go golfing.
The Melbourne fire chief could not comment because of the appeals process for firefighters.
If Reyna does not appeal before Thursday, he will be fired.
Reyna could not be reached for comment.
