Gov. calls for leader of Visit Florida to step down amid Pitbull controversy

FLORIDA — The $1 million that Visit Florida paid rapper Pitbull to promote the state may end up costing the head of the group his job.

On Wednesday, Eyewitness News reported that the state was suing to unseal the secret contract between Pitbull and Visit Florida.

Pitbull released on Twitter details of the contract on Thursday.

On Friday, Gov. Rick Scott called for a complete overhaul of how Visit Florida does business and asked its leader, Will Seccombe, to step down.

Scott said he was troubled that Visit Florida’s spending was not transparent.

Pitbull was paid $1 million to produce a music video, and received other perks to promote the state.

Lawmakers in Florida wanted to know how much it cost taxpayers, but Visit Florida said, “No.”  House leaders sued, and that led Pitbull to release the contract.

House leaders blasted the contract and called it “corporate welfare” and a “waste.”
