Orange County school plagued with leaky ceilings, lack of fire alarms

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — 9 Investigates discovered the safety of hundreds of students and staff at an Orange County private school is at risk and has been for months.

Leaking ceilings, holes in the walls and no working fire alarm has students at Agape Christian Academy in Pine Hills fearful that their health and safety are in danger.

Channel 9 learned the school has been racking up $500-a-day fines since September for not having a working fire alarm.

A state health inspection completed last week listed a dozen violations, including leak stains in the ceiling, restrooms with a stench of urine, a clogged toilet and holes in the walls.

Country records show there are several violations with the fire system at the school.

A county spokesperson said the school has been lacking a working fire alarm since last year, and there are no proper fire exits.

Records show the county placed a lien on the property from the violations.

A special magistrate ordered a $500-a-day fine last September.

The school has racked up $83,000 from the fire alarm violations.

A county spokesperson said the violations aren’t being taken lightly, but the state fire marshal has not decided if the school will shut down.

It’s not the first time the school has faced problems.

In 2013, two students were shot in an accident and there was another shooting three years before that one.
