FWC searching Lake Jesup after empty boat found circling in water

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Emergency crews were called to Lake Jesup Park in Sanford Wednesday after an empty boat was found circling in the water.

Officials with the Seminole County Fire Department say they received a call around noon about the empty boat in the lake.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office says they also received a call about a boater who was possibly in some kind of distress.

The Sheriff’s Office launched a helicopter to search the area before turning the search over to the Florida Wildlife Commission.

FWC responded to the scene and assisted in securing the boat. They’re now in the process of using Sonar equipment to search under the water for anyone who may have been in it.

The Sheriff’s Office says they’ve identified the boat owner, but don’t know if that person was with it at the time it was left in the water.
