Surveillance video released in Pine Hills barber shop owner's shooting death

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A community is on edge after a violent and deadly week in Orange County.

On Wednesday, a father was shot and killed inside a Pine Hills barber shop.

Surveillance was released Friday showing the suspect accused of shooting and killing barbershop owner Brian Berry.

The community activist was robbed, shot and killed at Strictly Skillz Barbershop and Salon in the 400 block of North Pine Hills Road near State Road 408 at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, deputies said.

The gunman stormed into the store as it was closing, pointed a gun and demanded money, deputies said.

Reginald Trammel, 36, was also shot during the robbery.

He has a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

"If you know something and do nothing, then you are just as bad as the people who perpetuated this crime," Demings said.

Deputies said during a news conference Friday that the shooter is a black male standing 6 foot 2 inches, weighing 170 to 190 pounds. He was either wearing a hoodie or bandana over his face, deputies said.

“We’re calling on the community to bring the criminal to justice,” said Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings.

Demings said Friday that the gunman has also been connected to other robberies and carjackings in Pine Hills in the last few weeks.

The shooter also went to the barbershop Saturday, pointed a gun at Barry, then left, deputies said.

The incident was never reported to deputies, investigators said.

A stolen green Ford Fiesta and a stolen silver Chevy Cavalier were in the area at the time of the crimes, deputies said.

The shooter was in the Fiesta Saturday night when he went to the barbershop, and he was driving the Cavalier during Wednesday's robbery, deputies said.

Both vehicles have been returned to their owners, but deputies said they hope by releasing the pictures, it might lead to more clues about the shooter.

"Members of our public, at some point would have seen that person moving throughout our community," investigators said.

Berry’s shooting death was one of three violent crimes in Orlando this week, and the 15th one this year in Pine Hills.

Days earlier, a teenager was gunned down at his birthday party 2 miles from the barber shop.

Three teenagers suffered non-life-threatening injuries Thursday when a gunman opened fire on a basketball court on Youngstown and Annapolis avenues.

The murder rate in the area is up 27 percent from this time last year.
