10-foot gator bites woman in Econlockhatchee River

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A 60-year-old woman was hospitalized Friday afternoon after an alligator bit her arm as she waded in the Econlockhatchee River in the Little Big Econ State Forest near Chuluota, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said.

An alligator measuring nearly 11 feet bit the woman at about 2:30 p.m. as she stood in waist-deep water, wildlife officials said.

The woman, Sherry Golden, is expected to recover from her injuries.

Wildlife officials trapped and killed the alligator Friday evening.

The attack happened in the same area where a 17-year-old Winter Springs boy was bitten by an alligator three years earlier.

“He came up behind me and clamped,” Andrew Hudson told Channel 9 in 2013. “When he took me under, I felt him kind of right here, the soft part of his belly, and I started swinging and he let go."

Hudson, who recovered from serious injuries on his head and his back, said the bite left him with 19 stitches and 12 staples.
